news / 2025-10
Our free J1939 webinar is now on YouTube: A 1-hour masterclass on J1939, J1939-73 DM1 diagnostics and how to log J1939 data from heavy-duty vehicles with the CANedge. Plus: A new J1939-73 DM1 intro, our updated J1939 logging intro, UN ECE R10 approval and 3 case studies.
Webinar: J1939 intro, data logging & telematics
You can now watch our recent J1939 webinar on YouTube!
In this webinar, Martin Falch introduces J1939 + J1939-73 and provides step-by-step guidance on how to deploy the CANedge to collect J1939 data from heavy-duty vehicles.
This is a 1 hour master class in J1939 - make sure to check it out!
J1939-73 diagnostics - a simple intro [DM1, DTCs]
In our latest 'simple intro' we focus on practical J1939 diagnostics in heavy-duty vehicles! In particular, we introduce the J1939-73 standard with focus on the Diagnostic Message 1 (DM1) and active diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs):
- What is SAE J1939-73?
- DM1 - Diagnostic Message 1
- DM1 example CAN traces
- How to log & decode DM1 data
- Example: J1939-73 dashboards
- Use cases
The intro is a must-read if you're interested in diagnosing issues in J1939 networks.
We explain the most critical theoretical basics - and provide multiple practical examples, including from real-life CANedge log files. We also showcase how you can use the CANedge to log and DBC decode J1939 DM1 data to extract and interpret DTCs - incl. visualization in J1939-73 Grafana dashboards.
J1939 data logging + telematics - updated intro
We have also recently improved our J1939 data logging intro, including new sections:
- Select CANedge & adapters
- Configure your device
- Record raw J1939 data
- DBC decode your data
- Auto-upload J1939 data to your server
- Automate data processing and visualization
- Featured J1939 case studies
The updated intro distills practical end user insights from thousands of J1939 use cases. It also serves as the basis for our recent J1939 webinar.
If you use our CANedge you can also request PDF guides from us for specific vehicle models - including 1500+ heavy-duty vehicles. To check if your models are part of the collection you can use our new lookup tool as shown in the guide.
The CANedge is now UN ECE R10 approved
All our CANedge data loggers (incl. GPS/WiFi/LTE variants) are now certified by TÜV SÜD to be compliant with UN ECE Reg. 10.06 – on top of existing certifications.
This offers multiple benefits for our OEM users:
Plug & play vehicle integration
ECE R10 is accepted in most E-mark type-approval regimes, reducing the need for product-specific EMC evidence - contact us to request the TÜV SÜD test reports.
Proven safety and robustness
The CANedge passed 30 V/m radiated immunity (200 MHz-2 GHz), 60 mA BCI, ISO 7637 transients and CISPR 25 emissions – your harness stays quiet, your ECU data stays clean and your CANedge endures.
Global deployment
ECE R10 makes it easier to deploy the CANedge globally, in combination with our other device certifications: CE-RED (EU), FCC (USA), IC (Canada), KC (Korea), ICASA (South Africa), RCM (Australia), WPC (India), PTCRB/AT&T (USA LTE).
Overall, this simplifies your transition from using the CANedge in-house for OEM R&D/diagnostics - to deploying it across vehicle fleets in production.
4 x CAN + sensor data in trucks
In this case study, ClearFlame Engine Technologies use multiple CANedge/CANmod devices to collect all the data they need for specialized data acquisition use cases, offloading data to MinIO S3 and visualizing it via Grafana!
"The CANedge/CANmod are easy to configure and work right out of the box - and CSS has good documentation on device installation, configuration and usage!"
20 x CANmod.temp for test systems
Destinus uses 20 x CANmod.temp units to integrate thermocouple temperature measurements into their test systems as part of their hydrogen-powered experimental test bench.
"The CANmod.temp is a compact and reliable solution for engine temperature monitoring in demanding test environments. It is easy to integrate and highly modular"
Mining diagnostics via WiFi
DOK-ING uses the CANedge2 to collect CAN data from their underground machinery during field use. In particular, their aftersales support team leverages the 'web server' interface of the CANedge2 to allow technicians to access the device SD card via WiFi - without relying on a separate server.
"The CANedge2 is a well-thought-out device with amazing features (like Wifi), easy data access and small size - making it ideal for machines and cars alike"
