What problem did you solve?
We needed a reliable solution for real-time thermocouple data acquisition to monitor engine health parameters in a hydrogen-powered experimental test bench. Our focus was on efficient data logging and integration into our test system at the H2 Park facility in Payerne, Switzerland.
How did you solve it?
We designed a compact 3D-printed housing that accommodates six CANmod.temp units. Each module lets us measure 4 x thermocouple-based temperatures and output the data via a CAN bus interface. Importantly, the module supports easy configuration of the bit-rate and CAN IDs, allowing us to daisy chain any number of devices onto a single CAN bus.
This setup allows us to collect temperature data from multiple thermocouples simultaneously, feeding it directly into our test system for real-time monitoring, analysis and logging. Subsequently, the data is post-processed via custom in-house Python scripts. We deploy several of these bundles, using 20 CANmod.temp devices per test bench across two ground-engine test benches at our site. Other Destinus teams (e.g. in the Netherlands) also use the CANmod.temp extensively.

"The CANmod.temp is a compact and reliable solution for engine temperature monitoring in demanding test environments. It is easy to integrate and highly modular"

What benefit has this led to?
The CANmod units provide a streamlined solution for high-frequency temperature monitoring without complex wiring or additional data acquisition hardware. Their modularity and easy integration have saved us significant time in setup/operation, allowing for more efficient testing and faster iteration cycles.
Why did you choose the CANmod.temp?
The CANmod offered a simple, scalable solution with robust CAN bus integration. Its standalone capability, reliability, and ease of configuration made it an ideal choice for our test bench setup.
