CAN Data Logger Firmware 01.07 for CANedge [News]
news / 2023-03
CANedge firmware 01.07 brings 3 major upgrades to our CAN data loggers: Up to 50% smaller log files, cross-channel triggers and CAN based RTC synchronization. Plus: 7x faster MF4 converters, a J1939 DBC file update and case studies from Lightyear, Kverneland and Lithium System.
Firmware 01.07 released with 3 major features
We have now released the latest firmware for the CANedge!
Below we highlight 3 major features of this update.
Get the firmware here - and see our tips on migrating your Configuration File.
Note: When updating, ensure you also update your software/API tools incl. asammdf, the MF4 converters and our Python API tools. If any questions, contact us.
1: Up to 50% smaller log files
CANedge log files are now up to 50% smaller: If a 1 hour log file was 10 MB before, it is now 5 MB. This stacks with compression, so upgrading the FW and enabling compression can yield up to 90% reductions!
2: Cross-channel triggers
The CANedge control signal lets you start/stop logging based on signal thresholds. This has been overhauled to more closely mimic the DBC file syntax. Further, it now supports cross-channel triggers - letting you e.g. start logging on Channel 1 based on a signal threshold on Channel 2. An example use case is to avoid car battery drainage in UDS/OBD2 deployments.
3: CAN based RTC synchronization
The CANedge comes with a real-time clock with battery backup. Like all RTCs, this will drift over time. However, with FW 01.07 you can now optionally 'sync' the RTC based on a CAN signal (e.g. from a CANmod.gps), ensuring your CANedge units are in sub-second sync.
MF4 converters now up to 7x faster
As part of the new firmware, the log file MF4 converters have been overhauled. As a result, they are now much faster - with the mdf2finalized converter 7x faster than before, letting you quickly load CANedge data into e.g. Vector software or MATLAB.
J1939 DBC file updated to 2023-01
The J1939 DBC file lets you decode raw data across most heavy-duty vehicles like trucks, buses and tractors. We have now updated our J1939 DBC to use the 2023-01 Digital Annex as basis. Get yours now!
Lightyear: Solar electric vehicle data collection
Learn how Lightyear uses 2 x CANedge2 and the CANmod.gps to automate data collection from their solar electric vehicle to their AWS cloud database.
"The CANedge2 allowed us to build our own fleet monitoring system in a fast, secure, and scalable way thanks to exceptional support from CSS"
Kverneland: J1939/ISOBUS diagnostics
Kverneland uses the CANedge2 to log J1939/ISOBUS data via 4G to their Azure cloud for customer profiling and vehicle diagnostics - with Grafana visualization.
"The CANedge2 is a high quality product, but the CSS support makes it an absolutely unbeatable solution!"
Lithium System: EV truck telematics
Lithium System deploys the CANedge2 for remote troubleshooting and analysis of heavy-duty electric vehicles, enabling faster optimization of their systems.
"Fantastic product, highly configurable, excellent documentation and outstanding support!"
Status at CSS
We hope FW 01.07 will help our CANedge users in the field - any feedback is welcome!
Our team is now 100% focused on major product launches coming in the next months.
Stay tuned, it will be awesome.
