The CANedge3 is a 3G/4G CAN data logger for vehicle telematics: It records 2 x CAN/LIN plus internal GPS/IMU data to an SD card and uploads it to your own S3 server via your own SIM. Plus: The Super SIM, an ISOBUS case study, FW 01.07.03 and a J1939-73 DBC file.

The CANedge3 is now launched - and in stock!
The CANedge3 has been the #1 request from users for years now. Effectively, it's identical to a CANedge2 (incl. GPS/IMU), but with a SIM slot and 3G/4G connectivity instead of WiFi.
This makes the CANedge3 ideal if you need to collect CAN/LIN/GPS data from mobile assets in the field - such as cars, trucks, ships, tractors, bikes, trains and more.
We are confident that this will be a game changer for many use cases - and we're really happy about finally launching it!
Below we summarize key new features (see also our LinkedIn post):
GPS + 3D IMU
The CANedge3 comes with an internal GPS/IMU module. This enriches your 2 x CAN/LIN data with valuable signals such as position, speed, acceleration, altitude, attitude, trip distance and more. Further, with automotive sensor fusion you can enhance the accuracy and retain a fix even in GNSS-hostile areas like urban cities, tunnels or parking lots.
SECURE 3G/4G
The CANedge3 has a micro SIM card slot, letting you insert your own SIM card for 3G/4G connectivity, globally. This lets the device upload recorded log files to your own S3 server with full over-the-air support. The CANedge3 also supports an optional encryptable PIN code for your SIM and secure TLS transfer.
SUPER SIM
The CANedge3 lets you use your own preferred SIM. However, we also include an optional global IoT SIM card, the 'Super SIM', with powerful features and pre-negotiated 90% reduced transfer costs. As an example, the Super SIM costs/GB are ~90% lower for US users vs. Soracom SIM cards.
2-IN-1 LTE/GPS ANTENNA
You can optionally deploy the CANedge3 with our three meter 2-in-1 IP65 LTE/GPS antenna. This lets you position the antenna optimally for coverage - while deploying the CANedge3 in a secure location.
Real-time CAN data via mobile app
In a new case study, Arktos Ag uses the CANedge3 and CANedge2 to collect ISOBUS + GPS/IMU data across a mixed fleet of tractors/implements in a large-scale hay farm. The hay baling data is visualized in real-time in a mobile app, allowing operators to better self-manage.

Sync your RTC via internal GPS time
If you have a CANedge incl. GPS/IMU, make sure to update your configuration to sync your real-time clock (RTC) with the high-precision internal GPS time. By doing so, you eliminate RTC drift and ensure that your CANedge RTC is continuously synced to stay within a sub-second threshold of the 'true' absolute time. We of course provide a quickstart guide in the CANedge intro.
CANedge FW 01.07.03 is now available
Key FW additions include updates to the GPS module, support for 'trip distance' signals and an optional RTC sync message on the internal CAN channel. In addition, the update includes various smaller fixes and performance improvements.
J1939-73 DBC file for diagnostics
Our new SAE J1939-73 DBC file contains decoding rules for converting J1939 diagnostic messages (DM1, DM2, ...) to 'physical values'. This helps you identify issues in e.g. trucks, tractors and buses. See our 'Grafana dashboard playground' for a visualization of how this can be used in practice!
Status at CSS
As evident, we are truly excited to have released the CANedge3 - and so far, the feedback from early access users has been great!
