Case Studies / Bosch
Bosch
About: Bosch is a multinational engineering and electronics company that produces automotive components and industrial products. Bosch eMobility is involved in various projects in electromobility.
What problem did you solve?
Logging CAN bus data reliably from a fleet of test vehicles without having to install laptops in vehicle.
How did you solve it?
We installed the CANedge1 in our test vehicles in standalone mode to record raw CAN data over longer periods. Data was extracted via the SD card.
What benefit has this led to?
The device enabled us to collect data from our fleet of vehicles, which has helped optimize our system/calibration.
"The CANedge let us collect data from our fleet of test EVs - I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a CAN data logger."
Why did you choose the CANedge?
The CANedge1 is an affordable, plug & play device for CAN logging with complete flexibility to customize logging rates, messages etc. The standard MF4 log file format was easy to analyze with the Python libraries and various GUI based tools. Further, any queries were immediately addressed by the CSS team - which we appreciate a lot.

Bosch uses Python to process their CAN bus data from their electric vehicle test fleet. In this case, they've used the asammdf Python API to automate their CAN bus data processing.
Since this study, we have also released our own Python API, which lets you easily list log files, load them into pandas dataframes - and DBC decode the data. Like all our software/API tools, the Python API is 100% free and open source.
