IP67 DTM06-12SA-DB9/DB9 Adapter Cable

DTM06-12SA-DB9/DB9 Adapter [CANedge IP67 Enclosure]

Want to install your CANedge in our IP67 enclosure - yet still be able to use our DB9 adapter cables?

If so, this DTM06-12SA-DB9/DB9 adapter is the ideal solution. It converts the DTM06-12SA connector of our IP67 enclosure to two DB9 male connectors matching the pinouts of the CANedge CH1/CH2 DB9 connectors.

This means that you can directly use any of our DB9 adapter cables out-the-box for quick, flexible installation and testing.

About the adapter cable

The DTM06-12SA-DB9/DB9 is designed specifically for use with the CANedge IP67 enclosure, which allows you to easily make your devices dust-tight and waterproof.

The IP67 enclosure exposes an IP67 DTM06-12SA connector and you can easily create your own custom wiring harness e.g. using our DTM06-12SA connector kit. However, in many use cases you will want to protect the CANedge, while still being able to use our wide range of DB9 adapter cables. This DTM06-12SA-DB9/DB9 adapter lets you achieve exactly that by exposing the CANedge CH1/CH2 connectors/pinout for plug & play connections.

Below are use cases examples where the DTM06-12SA-DB9/DB9 adapter is useful:

Mixed fleet data logging & testing

Need to log J1939 data from mixed heavy-duty vehicle fleets?

In many aftermarket telematics use cases it is necessary to deploy CANedge devices across a fleet of mixed heavy-duty vehicles, often requiring a number of different adapter cables. In such cases it can be highly practical to deploy the CANedge in the IP67 enclosure with the DTM06-12SA-DB9/DB9 adapter as it allows for leveraging the full range of DB9 adapter cables available for the CANedge, without having to create custom wiring harnesses for multiple different vehicle connectors.

While the DTM06-12SA connector is IP67, regular DB9 connectors are not waterproof or dust-tight. As such, consideration should be made as to how the device is installed when using this cable. For the DB9 connectors themselves, short/medium-term exposure to light dust and humidity won't necessarily cause practical issues - while for longer-term installations it is recommended to either protect the DB9 connectors or monitor the cables for potential replacement over time.

In our experience across thousands of deployments, it takes a lot of exposure to actually damage the DB9 connectors themselves and disrupt the communication with the CANedge. In contrast, exposure to dust/humidity can fairly quickly damage electronic devices like the CANedge if it is not properly protected.
