With the DB9-to-DB9/DC power splitter, you’ll be able to power e.g. your CLX000 CAN logger via a power outlet, battery or e.g. cigarette receptacle. The DC female connector is a standard 5.5 mm (ID, inner diameter) x 2.1 mm (CPD, center pin diameter).

The adaptor is great for test setups, machine logging or vehicles where no power is provided by the DB9 connector (or you prefer not to use the CAN bus power supply).

About the DB9-DB9/DC Adapter

What can you use it for? The DB9-DB9/DC adapter is useful when you need to power your CLX000 via an external power supply. This can be relevant e.g. if no power is supplied via the CAN bus - or you simply prefer an alternative power source.

The power splitter is designed for use in CAN bus applications with DB9 pinouts in accordance with CiA 303-1. This means you can use them with our CAN loggers, adapter cables - and most CAN tools on the market.

The DC connector is 5.5 mm (ID) x 2.1 mm (CPD), meaning that it fits most standard power supply options.

When Do You Need the DB9-DC Power Splitter?

Below are two use case examples where the power splitter can be applied:

Machinery With CAN DB9 Port (But No Power)

Need to log ad hoc data from production machines?

In many industrial automation cases, a machine based on CAN will have a DB9 connector port. However, in some cases only the CAN L/H pins will be connected in the DB9 pinout - and no power will be supplied for the CLX000. In this scenario, you'll need to supply the CLX000 with external power. Here, the DB9-DB9/DC splitter is great for e.g. adding power via a small battery pack. Doing so also lets you quickly disconnect the CLX000 after analysis - and e.g. connect it to another machine.

Quick Desktop Configuration & Testing

Need to power your CLX000 during desktop testing?

In desktop development, you'll sometimes have CAN based prototype modules (e.g. vehicle ECUs) that you want to log data from via the CLX000. If there is no built-in power supply in the module, you can use the adapter to e.g. power your CLX000 via a wall power outlet using standard transformers. This way you can both stream and log data straight from your desktop.

Some users like to configure their CL3000s by their desk and test the WiFi connection from there.

This can be done without a CAN bus by using this adapter and a power supply. In turn, this lets you e.g. manually add a log file to the SD card of a CL3000 straight out-the-box, power it and check that the log file is uploaded to your server as expected. For e.g. fleet management where you may need to deploy 200+ CL3000 units, this can be a convenient solution to ensure everything is set up correctly before heading to the field.
